Being a hero requires that one has certain character traits: selflessness, integrity, courage, a sense of justice, and intelligence. Eben has all but the latter. He isn't stupid, merely absent-minded due to years of brain-melting in front of the TV, so he daydreams often. He is friendly to everyone he meets and tends to hand his trust out like candy. He likes to take charge of situations and will assert that he has good leadership qualities, when really he comes off as very bossy. He thinks he's always in the right, will defend a point that he doesn't know anything about if he agrees with it, and never admits when he is wrong. In spite of this, Eben is very attentive to those in need of help or advice, or just someone to listen to. And he is always up for playing games or curling up with you in front of a screen (if you can handle his slime trail). He is a TV-holic and can recite many episodes of various cartoons line for line.
Brief History: Eben was given as a pet to a boy named Jack, who didn't really journey and battle like other kids his age. He was obsessed with TV, especially superhero shows, so he liked to pretend that he was the superhero Jacknificent, who fought crime alongside his sidekick, the Blue Blur. They played with friends at school for years, while Eben play-fought with their Pokémon. In the process, he grew and evolved. Although his parents didn't allow it, Jack let Eben into the house to watch TV whenever they were away.
After Jack turned thirteen, his parents made him come to terms with having to grow up. He focused more on school than play. Eben was alone more often than not, even when he trekked to school just to walk home with his BFF. Jack found new friends and became popular in junior high, so he had even less time to spend with Eben. The Gastrodon wandered the block alone during the day, narrating his life as though he were part of a grand superhero adventure: Jacknificent had been stripped permanently of his powers by the forces of evil, leaving the Blue Blur to clean up crime in Majolica Town by himself.
Jack's parents noticed Eben wandering around during the day and they asked Jack if he thought he could take care of him anymore. Jack, bogged down with homework and more interested in friends, decided to give him away. On the drive to the ranch, just to humor him, Jack told him that a new planet called Gaia needed the help of the Blue Blur more than their hometown. Eben gladly accepted the mission and embraced his new home, vowing to keep it free of crime and danger.
