Name: Caterina Sophie Espina (prefers to go by Cata)
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Quirks/Preferences: Cata is open to taking any Pokémon, no matter what age, no matter how wild and difficult to tame, because she is confident that she can handle all of them. She tends to name her Pokémon after friends or people she has met, or after some of her favorite words she learned in school.
Description: Cata is a skinny young woman for someone standing at 5'8" with a slightly bosomy, pear figure. Her legs are long, her hips are wide. Her thick, shiny hair is blue-black in color and reaches down several inches past her shoulders. She has an inverted triangle-shaped face with a prominent chin and a small forehead. Her round eyes are gray in color. Her skin is a shade darker than caramel.
She tends to make dressing herself easy with a simple jeans and tee shirt, or a low-cut tee with a tank top underneath for modesty, though she always dresses appropriately for formal occasions.
Personality:
Caterina is very studious, having spent much of her life in school. Competitive, she wants to excel in anything she does, even going so far as stroking her own ego with each of her successes. She is introverted and mellow, slow to anger, though when irate, she tends to cuss (especially in Spanish) and sling verbal mud. She is sometimes careless of others, too, when she is engrossed in making sure her own needs are met. She is typically courteous to anyone she talks to but is more quiet when she first meets people. She opens up a lot more once she feels comfortable. Although smart from years of studying, she tends to mess up with manual work.
Brief History: Caterina was not allowed to have any Pokémon as she grew up. She lived primarily in Sable City, Kanto, with her aunt and older cousins, who thought it was more practical for her to stay in school and learn important life skills. She developed a passion for drawing in school and decided that she wanted to make a career out of it, but when she was twelve, her aunt discouraged her and told her to find a different interest. She also suggested becoming a Pokémon doctor, because several of her close friends had Pokemon as pets, and she enjoyed playing with them. Still her aunt shot her down, saying she should be a human doctor if that was what she wanted to do. Cata gave in and signed up for an anatomy class at her school when she was 15. In the years following that, she took all sorts of biology classes, including ones centered on Pokémon. She knows a lot about medicine and how the body works as a result of her studies.
When she finished public school at 18, she wanted to go to college, but her aunt made her go job-hunting to pay for her own education. The most common job she could get was babysitting, but she wanted something she could depend on. She wandered around town, looking for jobs and snagging a few short-lived ones, before deciding that it would be best to simply leave town to find work. She barely survived by camping on the edges of towns and selling her artwork to people on the street. Cata made it to Pallet Town when on the television, she'd heard about the success of a fairly young Pokémon ranch, Gaia Ranch, that had opened up several years before. She saw an opportunity to find a place to live and work closely with Pokémon, and she asked her aunt for money for a boat ticket to Sinnoh, saying she would find reliable work there. Cata left home with all her clothes, her art supplies, and the promise that she would pay her aunt back the ferry ticket money.
