Orson reflected on the Leafeon's words. It would not be a bad thing to be stronger, considering how small the Teddiursa was, but Orson still did not like the thought of it. If he was stronger, though, he'd be able to take care of himself...
He blinked when Lapis mentioned battles between friends. "Aren't you scare of hurting each other?"

Lapis tilted his chin upwards a little to think about it.
"Well," he sighed, "We don't want to hurt each other, but if we want to get real practice, we can't really take it easy on one another. We all know we're friends and we wouldn't hurt them deliberately. Besides, the caretakers always have a supply of potions." he smiled.

Orson shook his head slowly. "I still don't get it," he said. "Why not practice on other things? Like... trees or something..." The Teddiursa's voice dropped in volume as he spoke, his fingers playing with the remnants of the orange fruit the pair had been sharing.
"Has anyone ever had to go to the center because the caretakers can't fix them?" Orson asked.

"Well, if we practiced on trees," Lapis began, "We wouldn't get the full practice we need. Trees can't fight back so we can't work on defending ourselves. Not to mention that Trees can't defend themselves and we don't want to destroy them.
"As for going to the Pokemon Center, I have been there plenty of times." Lapis confirmed. "Sapphire always has the potions and such she needs to help heal myself and the rest of our team, but she would always bring us there for a check-up. You can never be too careful."

"We live on a peaceful ranch, though," Orson said. "Why would we need the practice? The humans take care of us. They would protect us... Right?"
The Teddiursa did agree with the fact that trees couldn't defend themselves. "I suppose that's right," he said. "I wouldn't want to hurt the trees."
His eyes widened. "Plenty of times?" he echoed. "Why? Were you really hurt?"

Lapis chuckled. "The caretakers would protect us, yes. But we also have to protect our trainers, as well. We need to protect the ranch in case any hostile wild Pokemon come in. Plus, you never know when we'll leave the Ranch to explore some of the regions.
"Anyway," he continued, "I was never hurt too badly, but going to the Pokemon Center for a check-up is good just to be on the safe side."

Orson mulled over the idea of protecting Sapphire, his trainer. "I guess so... But I don't like fighting. I don't want to practice it."
Surely there were enough ranch Pokemon that were tough enough to defend it? Would Orson really have to practice battles? He was still young, after all.
"When did you start battling?" the Teddiursa asked.

"Honestly, I have never heard of a Pokemon who did not like to battle." Lapis shrugged his shoulders. "But, you're young and you're right--we're in a relaxing peaceful ranch. I doubt we're going to have to do any battling."
The Leafeon tilted his head upwards slightly as he thought. "I began to battle when I was ready. I know that's a vague answer, but I had Crystal by my side along with two older sisters and an older brother. All of them were battling so I kind of wanted to do at a young age."

"Maybe I'm weird," Orson muttered mainly to himself when Lapis mentioned that most Pokemon liked to battle. The Teddiursa's ears perked up when the Leafeon said that Orson was right, and a smile tugged at Orson's face.
Orson blinked when Lapis said something about a multitude of siblings. The Teddiursa knew that a bunch of Eevee-lutions lived in the same barn as he, but he hadn't quite realized that they were all related. "So... How many siblings do you have?"

"You're not weird," Lapis smiled reassuringly, "you're your own Pokemon."
The Leafeon took a deep breath before he began to explain his family. He got this question a lot. "Right now I have five siblings, but it's soon to be six. My mother and father just had another egg that's going to hatch any day now."

Orson's eyes widened. "Six? Wow... And you're all different, right? Is it fun having all of those siblings? Aren't your parents tired?"
He clamped his mouth shut momentarily, the Teddiursa abruptly thinking that perhaps he was talking too much or being too nosy. Orson had no idea what had happened to his biological family; he honestly didn't remember much of them, except how warm his mother used to be.
