Lapis staggered through the Tree Grove. Dinner was going to be served soon, but he was too hungry to wait. He wanted to eat something yummy and he wanted to eat it sooner rather than later. This was the perfect spot to eat since he knew the trees grew berries.
But...it was in the middle of winter.
The Leafeon looked up and down all the trees. He tried to keep his eye open for any berries that might still be lingering on the branches, but he didn't seem to be having any luck as of yet.

One of the branches of a tree in the back row shook and a couple of small oranges fell to the ground. A moment passed before a small bear Pokemon shimmied down the tree trunk to retrieve the fallen fruit. He plopped down on the ground and licked his lips while peeling one of the oranges. Just as he was about to take a bite, the Teddiursa spotted the Leafeon.
There Orson was, mouth open wide with an orange halfway in it, and he was staring in surprise with wide eyes at the Leafeon. He tried to remember who the Leafeon was, because Orson knew that the other Pokemon shared his barn, but he still wasn't positive of the Leafeon's name.

Lapis continued to weave in and out the many trees that towered over him. He looked up and sniffed hoping to find something good to eat. He smiled when he scented orange and picked up his pace as followed the trail.
Before the Leafeon could take too many steps he froze noticing a small Teddiursa holding an orange in his hands. Lapis smiled and walked up to the Pokemon, recognizing him from Sapphire's barn.
"Hey...Orson, right?" Lapis tilted his head to the side hoping he wasn't making a mistake.

The Leafeon was talking to him! Orson stopped gaping and clamped his mouth shut, nodding in response to the question. The Teddiursa glanced down at the fruit in his hands, having the sudden thought that maybe all this fruit wasn't just for the taking and that the oranges he was holding really belonged to the other Pokemon.
Timidly, Orson held out one of the oranges and asked, "D-Do you w-want o-one? S-Sorry if they were y-yours..."

Lapis frowned in confusion. Had he scared the poor Pokemon? He didn't mean to.
"Well, I am hungry and I was looking for some fruit, but it's not mine." Lapis shook his head and sat down next to Orson. "You eat it. You found it first after all." he smiled hoping the Teddiursa wouldn't feel so afraid of him.

The Teddiursa glanced down at the fruit that he had and blinked up owlishly at the Leafeon that took a spot beside him. Slowly, he held up an orange to the other Pokemon again.
"I-it's okay," Orson said. "I... I won't eat a-all of this..."

Lapis, not knowing what else to do or say, shrugged his shoulders and gave in. He laid down next to Orson and smiled. "Thanks. How about we share it?"
He took a bite of the mouth-watering fruit and happily sighed. The Leafeon looked at the small Teddiursa. "It's good. Have a bite."

The Teddiursa scooted an inch away when the Leafeon laid down and relented in regards to the fruit. Lapis offered the share the orange, and Orson was promptly confused.
"Well... okay." Orson took a bite, a small one of the orange, and smiled at how juicy the winter fruit was. He pushed the fruit back to the Leafeon, giving him another turn. "It is good..."
(Awkward Teddiursa is awkward. xD)

Lapis forced a smile to the Teddisura. He was so puzzled by the way the Pokemon acted around him. He wondered if he had ever done anything wrong to Orson before, but he couldn't think of anything. As far as Lapis could remember, this was his first time ever really interacting with the Pokemon.
He took another bite. "It is good, isn't it? So where are you from, Orson? Which region? I'm from the Sinnoh region."

Orson's eyes widened as Lapis began asking questions. "Um... I don't know," the Teddiursa said. "I don't... remember. I, um, remember seeing Sapphire... But that's it..."
As far as Orson knew, Lapis had been with Sapphire his whole life. "Are you from anywhere different?" the Teddiursa asked to make sure.

Lapis nodded his head slowly as Orson spoke. Then he shrugged his shoulders at the question.
"Well, I was hatched in the Sinnoh region and also evolved there. That was with Sapphire. We explored the Unova region and then after that we settled here at the ranch." the Leafeon explained.

So Lapis had been off of the ranch. He had explored other lands, gaining wisdom and strength elsewhere. Orson found it fascinating, but he wasn't the type of Pokemon to want to explore dangerous new places. Maybe a nice little village or something with his trainer, but that was about it.
"Did you like it?" Orson asked, momentarily forgetting his shyness with his curiosity. "Going new places?"

Lapis glanced up at the sky as though he had to think of an answer. "Yes." he finally replied.
"I did like it. It was a great to be out in the real world. We visited a lot of amazing places, met new friends--Pokemon and trainers alike--and we just overall had a great time together." Lapis chuckled quietly. "Actually, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the battling."

Orson's ears twitched as he listened to Lapis' response, but they flattened momentarily when the Leafeon mentioned battles.
"I don't like battles," the Teddiursa said. "They look like... they hurt."
Not that Orson had ever participated in a true battle. He was still young, after all.

The Leafeon laughed. "Well, battles do hurt sometimes. But, in the end, it's all worth it. By the end of the battle, you feel stronger. The more you battle, the more moves you can learn so you can be better and stronger.
"Plus," he added. "Battles are great when it's between friends."
