My question is, what exactly is a caretaker? I mean, yeah they care for the Pokemon at the ranch, but... what happens to the Pokemon afterward? The Pokemon just live out their days in peace and contentment? Do people come to the ranch to adopt Pokemon from it, like an animal shelter? I noticed that some of the baby Pokemon bios that are currently floating around say that X was born at the Solaceon Day Care, and the Day Care Couple decided to send the baby to the ranch to socialize. That put me under the impression that the baby Pokemon was going to be adopted out to a trainer, maybe sort of like a starter Pokemon for those who can't make it to the regional lab.
Are Caretakers essentially the anime's Pokemon Breeders on a lesser scale? Breeders are concerned with the nutrition, grooming, and genetic well-being of their Pokemon; it seems to me that Caretakers more function as simply another set of "Day Care Couple" type characters. Do Caretakers even make their charges lay eggs for them? What would they do that for, just because it'd be fun to have babies or would they sell/adopt out the babies to NPC trainers?

To me, the caretakers here are like semi-retired trainers. Many of the humans were traveling trainers of all kinds (some who challenged the Pokemon League, some Coordinators, some type-specialists/former gym trainers, etc.) who decided on a different "challenge" of settling down with their Pokemon to help out on a farm with orphaned/hurt Pokemon. Originally, I believe the members of this site were going to play only Pokemon, while the staff would be, more or less, "behind the scenes" trainers/caretakers that would be there if needed, taking care of everything in the background while members focused on their Pokemon characters' stories. As a role-play, the members who play caretakers would not force their Pokemon charges to lay eggs, or sell the Pokemon to NPC trainers without the Pokemon's RPers' okay. However, there is no reason as to why you couldn't have Alias fall in love and make babies with someone else -- that's why the egg group section of the bio is there. Overall, I believe the caretakers are trainers who, instead of traveling, settled down and opened their doors for Pokemon to live in peace. If you have a Pokemon character that you wish to eventually sell/adopt to an NPC trainer, I'm sure you could figure out a plot/request in the appropriate sub-boards (plots is found in the character trackers board, and the request is found in the adoption board). I hope that helped, and welcome to the site.
